FITNESS FUN     No fee - free to enjoy by all:

Enjoy the  Fitness Trail at the LionsClub Park; you can just walk the trail or try the exercises that are displayed at the stations along the trail. It would be great to bring the children, there is playground equipment for them to enjoy if they don't walk with you.  (In the photo - Senator Rich Alloway and Dr. Elizabeth George demonstrate station # 5 at the ribbon cutting event!)
James Buchanan High schooltrack ; the entrance gate is by the Tennis courts. The track is available for community walkers and joggers Monday through Friday 6AM to 8:30 AM and 5:30PM to 8PM ; Saturday 6AM to 8PM.
      Check the School website www.tus.12k.pa.us

Kids can enjoy summer league sports - baseball and soccer.  And parents can get in a brisk walk around the fields, track or fitness trail while their children practice.

Montgomery Township park, located along Shimpstown Road between Rt #75 and #416  is another good place to go for a walk; the Boy Scouts put in "Eagle Trail "and "Eagle Walk", there is a picnic table and playground equipment. Open dawn to dusk.seven days a week.

There are many Scenic Back Roads all around Mercersburg and in Montgomery and Peters township for cyclists, joggers and walkers enjoy.   The roads are not yet marked to remind motorists to watch for pedestrians and cyclists, so ride or jog with safety in mind and "share the road".

Take a lovely walk in and around Mercersburg. Stop by Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce and pick up a map of Historic Mercersburg and enjoy a self-guided tour.

We all know the location of James Buchanan State Park, a stones throw from Mercersburg, 3 miles west on route 16. Another fine place to go walking; bring the children and enjoy the walking trail and stream.

About 15 miles south of Mercersburg is the C & O Canal trail. It is a serene place to walk or ride a bike, bring the family; even dogs on leashes are welcome. Open dawn to dusk.
